EPISODE 5 - 'A Boy in a Bush'
This is a very sad episode. B&B are called out to find a missing boy's body. They find the 6 year old's body badly decomposed between some bushes in an open field where teenagers spend their time partying.
There is some comic relief though when Bones tell Zack to put on Thermal Imaging suit. Zack says he doesn't want to wear it because it make him look like the Great Kazoo. Booth immediately greets him in a Darth Vader voice and asks if he can see anything on Saturn. Bones tells Booth to leave Zack alone.
We also get a glimpse into Bones' past from where she was in the foster system after her parents disappeared. She speaks to one of the dead boys' brothers' (Shawn) who is a foster child and convinces him to give up the name of the guy who killed his brother:
Booth says he is sorry for doubting her interrogation ability in this case since she obviously has personal knowledge of the foster system. Bones says she will tell him the whole story at some later time
It turned out to be one of the neighbourhood kids' father who was a child molester and accidentally suffocated the boy when he leaned on him with his knee to keep him quiet.
Bones got a new car from her publishers and Booth makes fun of her for parking at an angle - later she calls him "mean" coz there is now a dent in her door from parking straight as he told her:
Brennan: By the way, there is a huge dint in my passenger side door because you told me not to park it at an angle.
Booth: (laughs)
Brennan: Okay that's just mean!
Booth: (laughs harder.)
Brennan: You're mean.
Booth: Sorry.
We also finds out that Hodgins is the only living family member and part of the Cantilliver Group, a huge corporation that grosses more GNP than Europe (according to Zach). In fact, he donates more money to the Jeffersonian than anyone else, which effectively makes Jack their boss. However, that is not what he wants in life. He wants to sieve through slime and bugs in his little corner and not have to deal with who is family is and their connections. Only Booth, Angela and Zach were aware of who he was and he insisted that Brennan or Goodman were not to be told.
Jack rents a room to Zach. Actually his 'apartment' is above the garage and includes a "bedroom, living room, kitchen, another bedroom, a den, two bathrooms." Its quite a garage - housing all 12 of Jack's car (including antique ones) and a boat. He has a huge house, which Zack has never seen because it's across the way from the tennis fields he tells Angela.
B&B Moments:
Booth: Work on cases. You know, with me outside the lab. If you want to do that, I need to know that you will respect the law.
Brennan: Tell you what. If I can't respect the law, I can at least respect you.
To which Booth is a little surprised, but happy to hear it.
At the end of the episode Bones is dressed in a formal gown to attend a Jefforsonian function. Booth sees her and is take aback by her beauty. He can't quite bring himself to tell her she looks beautiful:
Booth: You look nice. Better then nice you look uh, very (is speechless)
Brennan: Thanks.
At the end Booth asks Bones how she knew he would back up her promise of keeping Shawn and his brother with Margaret. She is evasive at first but ends up saying because she knew Booth believed in heaven.
Brennan: I have a friend at the FBI if I ask him to, he will make sure that you and David get to live with Margaret again.
Child Advocate: Dr. Brennan, you can't make promises like that.
Brennan: Yes, I can. He will do it. My friend will make it happen.
Brennan: Do you remember me, Sean?
Sean: You're the museum lady, the one who's so smart.
Brennan: Yeah, I'm pretty smart.
Attorney: (sarcastically) And modest.
Booth: Oh, believe me, she is being modest.
